MACV analysis indicated infiltration from North Vietnam into the South was increasing in 1965. It was estimated that 26,188 personnel had arrived in the South during the year - a two-fold increase on 1964. Months later this estimate would be increased to more than 36,000. Ninety percent were believed to be North Vietnamese, while the rest were southern returnees, and an increasing number were members of NVA regiments.
