Marsh has cited the works of John Cassavetes as the primary influence on "A Talk in the Park", particularly Cassavetes' 1970 film "Husbands", as well as the works of Jim Cummings and a myriad of other filmmakers who receive a dedication in the end credits. The familial reconnection at the heart of "Everything Everywhere All at Once", which was released a few months before "A Talk in the Park" was filmed and is mentioned in the film itself, has also been named as an influence on it. It is, in the filmmaker's own words, "a story about how men don't talk about things that are bothering them, and men especially don't talk to each other about them, and that's something that needs to change."

ZACH MARSH is a Canadian-born filmmaker, actor, and musician. "A TALK IN THE PARK" is his directorial debut. Following a decade-long stint as a local musician in Toronto, Marsh shifted gears into acting in the early 2020s, bringing a lifelong love of cinema and the performing arts with him. While he loves the full gamut of cinema from James Bond to Jim Jarmusch, he is most interested in telling "stories about who we are as people, in our real lives, and how we behave towards one another. Just about any story, even the most fantastical one, is about that, but what interests me most is the story between people you might meet walking down the street today."
