IDF targets Hezbollah command centers, weapons sites in strikes on Beirut suburbs
Israel launched new waves of airstrikes in Lebanon overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday, striking Hezbollah targets while ramping up its troop presence in northern Israel, amid continuing rocket and drone attacks by the terror group.
One wave of airstrikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs overnight and Wednesday targeted Hezbollah command centers and weapon storage sites, the military said.
The IDF also said it had struck a Hezbollah command center in the coastal Lebanese city of Tyre on Tuesday
Four people were wounded in an Israeli strike targeting an apartment in central Beirut overnight, the Lebanese health ministry said. Earlier reports had said four were killed.
Unusually, the latter strike took place in central Beirut, and not in the Hezbollah Dahiyeh stronghold in the city’s southern suburbs, where the IDF urged residents to evacuate
There was no immediate comment from the IDF
Lebanese media and health authorities reported at least 17 dead and dozens wounded in further Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon on Wednesday morning.
In the town of al-Shahabiya, in the Tyre District, Israeli strikes “resulted in the martyrdom of seven citizens and the injury of 11 others,” Lebanon’s health ministry said in a statement carried by the official National News Agency.
In the eastern Beqaa Valley, the ministry said, a strike in the town of Tamnin al-Tahta killed seven and wounded 18, while in the town of Ali al-Nahr, another five were wounded.
The IDF has not yet commented on the morning strikes.
They were followed, according to Lebanese reports, by a further wave of attacks in Dahiyeh around 11 a.m., which came after the IDF reiterated an evacuation warning for the area, saying it would target Hezbollah sites
Lebanon’s health ministry said Wednesday that of those killed, 439 were men, 45 were women, and 86 were children. It did not distinguish between combatants and civilians.
The toll includes 14 healthcare workers, the ministry said
IDF bolstering troops in Israel’s north, may reinforce further
The IDF said it was bolstering troops in northern Israel amid the ongoing fighting.
Following a fresh assessment, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the Golani Brigade sent from the Southern Command to the Northern Command, the military said

The United Nations Security Council was to vote later in the day on a resolution sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) demanding that Iran stop attacking its Arab neighbours
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday said it had fired four missiles at the headquarters of US forces in the Middle East, including two missiles targeting Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.
Authorities in Kuwait did not confirm the reports. However, the country’s National Guard said that eight drones targeting the country had been downed.
In the Qatari capital, Doha, several explosions were heard on Wednesday morning as Qatar’s Ministry of Defence said that the country’s military had intercepted a new missile attack aimed at the Gulf nation
Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry said early on Wednesday it had destroyed five drones heading towards the kingdom’s vast Shaybah oilfield in the Empty Quarter desert. It added that it had intercepted and destroyed two drones in the Eastern Province
In Bahrain, Iranian attacks wounded dozens, including children, in Sitra near Manama, with a fire breaking out at a Ma’ameer facility after a drone strike.
Earlier, one woman was killed and eight people injured after a drone hit a residential building in Manama.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said an unknown projectile had struck a container vessel, setting it on fire, in the Strait of Hormuz, some 25 nautical miles (46km) northwest of the UAE’s Ras Al-Khaimah emirate.
“The master of a bulk carrier has reported their vessel being hit by an unknown projectile. There is no report of any environmental impact. The crew are reported safe and well,” the UKMTO said.
The crew are reported safe and authorities are investigating, the UKMTO said.
Tensions over the Strait of Hormuz
Concerns are mounting that the war could choke traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global oil and gas supplies, driving Brent crude up about 20 percent since the conflict began and already pushing up pump prices worldwide.
Amin Nasser, the president and CEO of Saudi Arabia’s oil giant Aramco, warned on Tuesday that if oil tankers continue to be unable to transit the strait, “that will have a serious impact on the global economy”.
