'Still Alive' written by Jonathan Coulton (www.jonathancoulton.com)
Basix' version is mixed my Bill Hare (www.dyz.com)
Portal 2 release: April 2011
PS
There has been a lot of talk about whether or not this track really IS performed by voices.
It is. However, like many people are noticing: 'processors' are being used. Big time.
Autotune is being used on the lead singer, because we wanted to create a sound that somewhat matches the GLaDOS computervoice.
Reverbs, delays, and distortion was used aswell.
And yes, we think processing IS allowed, even if what we do is a cappella.
We use the same processors as any other band, nothing new, or weird there. :-)
We do realize that many a cappella fans prefere a "purer" sound, with no effects, - which we completely understand, and respect.
We are simply offering a different kind of a cappella.
There is plenty of room for all kinds of a cappella, and we too listen to all kinds of a cappella ourselves.
We use the same processors, when performing live, - as we have specialized in singing and producing sounds that works well with the processors.
We havent actually tried using the autotune live, though.... there are a lot of tech-issues connected to that ('spilling' - where one mic will pick up sounds from the neighboring mics, is a problem) - but all other processors from this track we use live aswell.
Whenever we can (small enough venue) - we like to add a song or 2 with NO tech at all, not even mics.
Повторяем попытку...
