BCL films - Documentary - 1988.
This film tells the story of Hastings Trolleybuses from the first day in 1929 to the closure of the system in 1959. The pictures were filmed by Guy Motors 1926 - 38 in black and white and by Bruce Jenkins 1956 - 59 in colour. The remaining pictures and words come from an interview which was recorded at Silverhill depot in July 1988 - Derrick Waters, the H&D depot engineer was joined by octogenarian retired bus driver Richard Watling. They tell some interesting stories which are illustrated as far as possible with film including Guy open toppers and single deckers. Film of the Guy works (in Wolverhampton) is also included along with 1920s trolleybuses in other towns. The film ends with some 1980s trolley relics around the town.
Credit and copyright for the video, issued as a VHS cassette, belongs to BCL films and the people who made it but, as far as I can tell, BCL films no longer exists and this video is no longer available to buy so I am trusting that they will have no objection to their work being posted here where it can be seen by anyone worldwide who shares our interest in transport in Hastings.
