US Commission Urges Trump Administration To Sanction RSS Over Religious Freedom Concerns

Описание: A United States government advisory body has recommended targeted sanctions against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), alleging its role in violations of religious freedom in India. The recommendation was made in the 2026 annual report of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).

The report suggests that the Donald Trump administration consider measures such as freezing the organisation’s assets and restricting entry into the United States for individuals associated with the RSS. The commission also once again recommended that India be designated a “Country of Particular Concern”, a label used by the United States government for nations accused of systematic and serious violations of religious freedom.

USCIRF is an independent US government agency that monitors global religious freedom and provides policy recommendations to the White House, although its suggestions are not legally binding.

In its latest report, the commission claimed that religious freedom conditions in India continued to deteriorate in 2025. It cited legislation related to citizenship, anti-conversion laws and cow slaughter regulations, as well as alleged vigilante attacks on religious minority communities.

The Indian government has previously rejected similar assessments by the commission, describing them as biased and politically motivated.
