The Hardest Day Hike in Arizona? Super Icon Loop - 34.5 miles, 10,000' AEG

Описание: Is this the hardest day hike in Arizona? Well, that depends on what we all consider a “hike”! Ultra marathon runners can cover twice as much ground in a day. Certainly, whatever they are doing would be considered the hardest day hike – if running is considered hiking. I don’t consider running hiking, I think running is running. But then again, the Super Icon Loop includes scrambling and rock climbing - which most people wouldn't consider hiking either.

What about the FKT holders on the Arizona Trail? They are hiking…many carrying heavy packs and they are still able to knock out 50+ mile days. Certainly some of these day hikes are harder than the Super Icon Loop. Fair enough, that’s a solid argument.

Of course, the Rim to Rim to Rim is widely considered the hardest day hike in Arizona, with 11,000' of elevation gain and 42 miles! What a grueling trek that must be!

I think the Super Icon loop is 100% in the discussion. Covering 34.5 miles and over 10,000’ of elevation gain, this loop covers the hardest on-trail terrain the western superstitions has to offer. It took 17 hours to knock out all 9 Icons, covering all 5 classes of terrain.
