In Episode 2 of the "Through Our Eyes" series, PSA Singapore show you how staff at the wharf side anchor a mega container vessel. The star of this process is the mechanised winch - a winding device that helps reel in the heavy and soaked mooring ropes (each connected to two other ropes called the heaving and tail lines).
Before the mechanised winch, the anchoring of a vessel of this size requires 8 to 10 men! Now, we only need 6 men to do that.
And there you have it! A PSA who is always finding ways to do things better and safer.
