KX 500 VMXDN Build 2026! PT2 - Where do we start our builds?

Описание: Join us as we tackle this 1992 KX500! Sure, it might not win any beauty contests, but we’re diving in to restore it to its former glory. With more parts destined for the scrap heap than we’d like, it’s going to be a challenge.

The Supercross season is underway, and A1 is wrapped up, so whilst we've spent weeks, months even in the titainium workshop prepping bolt kits and hard parts for stateside teams and MXGP squads, it's time to head back into the blue workshop and catch up with the two KX500 projects we’re building for VMXdN Hawkstone 2026. As with every build, we are meticulously breaking it down to its bare bones for restoration ahead of the VMXdN Hawkstone and Farleigh Castle Vets MX.

The 1992 KZ500 is down to the bare frame, and I highlight the common issues we encounter and the modifications we implement at this stage of the build, focusing on foot peg mounts, steering stops, and the filing and grinding needed before powder coating. Plus, I’ll share some nostalgic stories from back in the day.

We’ll also cover swinging arm fluffing and buffing 101, discussing the differences between 90s MXGB bikes and USA race bikes. Expect a few flashbacks, including a classic Tortelli story and a look at our ‘one we made earlier’ Blue Peter-style engine case restoration.
