Dye Time #80: Let's Dye Some Roving! Low Immersion Fibre Dyeing with Liquid Acid Dyes, Spinning

Welcome to my first attempt at dyeing roving! I'm a new spinner and I like the idea of dyeing roving that I can spin myself. I had 8g left over roving (I can't remember the fibre content) and thought I'd have a go! If it all went wrong and I horribly felted everything, then losing 8g of roving isn't a huge tragedy. I picked two colours that I thought would work well together, Kelly green and tobacco leaf acid dyes from Dharma, dissolved a tiny amount in water and dyed with those. I was extremely careful not to move the roving about or let it get too hot and my caution paid off. I didn't felt the roving! Maybe next timeI'll be brave enough to dye 100g of roving.

Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
