A shocking and disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh has raised serious questions about academic pressure, NEET competition, and misuse of reservation quotas in India. In this discussion, Dr. Satish IRSE explains the controversial case of Suraj Bhaskar, a medical aspirant who allegedly amputated part of his own foot to qualify for the disability quota (PwD quota) in medical college admissions.
According to police investigations, Suraj Bhaskar from Jaunpur district had been preparing for the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) to get admission into an MBBS program. After reportedly failing the exam twice, he allegedly took the extreme step of severing part of his own foot and initially claimed that unknown attackers had assaulted him.
During the investigation, police found inconsistencies in his statements, call records, and evidence at the scene. Authorities suspect the injury was self-inflicted to obtain a disability certificate, which can provide concessions or reservation in medical admissions.
Investigators also discovered a diary where he wrote about his goal: “I will become an MBBS doctor in 2026.”
This shocking case has sparked a nationwide debate about:
• Extreme NEET exam pressure on students
• Mental health issues among aspirants
• Misuse of disability quota (PwD reservation)
• The intense competition for MBBS seats in India
In this video, Dr. Satish IRSE analyzes the deeper issues behind such incidents and discusses what students, parents, and policymakers must learn from this tragedy.
This video is important for students preparing for NEET, parents, educators, and policymakers to understand the realities of academic pressure and career obsession in India.
