Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Vietnamese is the official language of Vietnam and belongs to the Austroasiatic language family. It has been heavily influenced by Chinese, particularly in its vocabulary and the early use of Chinese characters for writing. Over time, it developed its own Latin-based script called "Quốc Ngữ," which was introduced by French missionaries in the 17th century and is used today. Vietnamese is tonal, meaning that the pitch or intonation of a word can change its meaning, with six tones in the northern dialect (Hanoi) and fewer in southern dialects (Ho Chi Minh City). The language has a rich history shaped by Vietnamese culture, history, and colonial influences.
Khasi is an Austroasiatic language spoken primarily by the Khasi people in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya and some neighboring regions in Bangladesh. Khasi is one of the few Austroasiatic languages spoken in South Asia, alongside languages like Santali. It has a unique phonology, characterized by a rich inventory of consonants and tones that distinguish meaning. Khasi is written in the Latin alphabet, introduced by Welsh missionaries in the 19th century, which helped standardize and expand its written use. The language plays a central role in Khasi identity, with strong cultural ties to oral traditions, folklore, and indigenous religious practices. Efforts are ongoing to preserve Khasi, particularly as younger generations face increasing exposure to dominant languages like English and Hindi in education and media.
This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
