Описание: A Usina Hidrelétrica de Pedra do Cavalo fica no rio Paraguaçu, que nasce na Chapada Diamantina, localizada a cerca de 2 km das sedes dos municípios de Cachoeira e São Félix e 120 quilômetros de Salvador, no estado brasileiro da Bahia. O Rio Paraguaçu deságua no estuário da baía do Iguape no município de Maragojipe.

A usina funciona através do aproveitamento da reserva da Barragem de Pedra do Cavalo. A queda de água passa por dois condutos, cada um com vazão de 76 metros cúbicos por segundo e a vazão é conduzida até a casa de força. A água passa pela turbina, equipamento responsável por conduzir e direcionar a vazão através de um eixo ligado ao gerador, com o movimento da paletas deste eixo, é gerada a energia, que é distribuída pelos cabos até as torres de transmissão.

A barragem tem como função principal o abastecimento de água à Região Metropolitana de Salvador (RMS), sendo a principal fonte devido ao fato de fornecer 60% de todo o recebido pela RMS.[1] Contudo, também foi idealizada para regularizar a vazão evitando as cheias que assolavam as cidades à jusante, às margens do Rio Paraguaçu: de um lado a cidade de São Félix, do outro, Cachoeira, cidades históricas importantes da Bahia.

Sabe-se que a prioridade do recurso natural renovável, porém finito, ali armazenado é o abastecimento humano e ecológico, motivo esse que obriga a usina hidrelétrica do complexo a fechar suas comportas respeitando níveis pré-estabelecidos de água na represa.

The Pedra do Cavalo Hydroelectric Power Plant is located on the Paraguaçu River, which rises in Chapada Diamantina, located about 2 km from the capitals of the municipalities of Cachoeira and São Félix and 120 km from Salvador, in the Brazilian state of Bahia. The Paraguaçu River flows into the estuary of the Iguape bay in the municipality of Maragojipe.

The plant works by taking advantage of the Pedra do Cavalo Dam reserve. The waterfall passes through two conduits, each with a flow of 76 cubic meters per second and the flow is conducted to the powerhouse. The water passes through the turbine, equipment responsible for conducting and directing the flow through an axis connected to the generator, with the movement of the pallets of this axis, the energy is generated, which is distributed by the cables to the transmission towers.

The dam's main function is to supply water to the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS), being the main source due to the fact that it supplies 60% of all water received by the RMS.[1] However, it was also designed to regulate the flow, avoiding the floods that devastated the cities downstream, on the banks of the Paraguaçu River: on one side, the city of São Félix, on the other, Cachoeira, important historic cities of Bahia.

It is known that the priority of the renewable, but finite, natural resource stored there is human and ecological supply, which is why the complex's hydroelectric plant has to close its gates respecting pre-established levels of water in the dam.
