450 orphans in Myanmar struggling to meet basic needs| Radio Free Asia (RFA)

Описание: More than 450 orphans in Myanmar’s largest city of Yangon are struggling to find food on a daily basis due to a lack of donors.

The orphanage, founded by the Yellow Generation Wave charity group, lies at the foot of the Bago Yoma Mountain on the expressway between Mandalay and Yangon. The orphanage also serves as a school, and it was founded in 2015 and has grown in population steadily since. But because of its distance from the city, the orphanage is struggling to get donors to support its operations.

“This is a place created for them. A boy here is a boy. We have tried our best to create a place for boys and girls to have a safe home and a learning center for their lives,” Ashin Zanar Nanda, the monk in charge of the orphanage, told RFA. “I let the girls and the boys learn the arts and crafts that they should know for their lives.”

Htal War came to the school in 2015, having lived on the streets after his mother died when he was 11 years.

“I was quite surprised with the new me. I was pretty worn out before. I knew that I had to change, I couldn’t live like that anymore,” he told RFA. “I thought like that in my mind. I was instructed to go and learn in an auto garage. It’s better if you have some knowledge. After I learned and came back from the auto garage, I now work as an auto mechanic.”
