This is stage F-B - Summer Night - with the Metallic Dawn on Bydo difficulty. Played on Score Attack.
About this ship:
This is a version of the Bydo Meltcraft that you run across in stage 1.0 and F-B, a liquid metal ship. The Metallic Force fires out short range weapons for all three types. The red weapon is a horizontal beam that fires out a single strand of red particles. The blue weapon fires out a horizontal V shaped weapon that is great for taking out weak enemies. The yellow weapon fires out an I shaped beam from the Force, which looks like a wall. The lasers are all liquid metal balls growing on top of each other, and on contact with a strong enemy, each ball will disappear and have to regenerate itself. This can be problematic with enemies that can take a lot of hits. When detached from the ship, the Metallic Force turns into a Metallic Dawn shaped ship that fires two 45 degree vulcans and a horizontal vulcan. It also fires a wave cannon blast when you do, making for excellent firepower. The wave cannon is a two loop charge that fires off a liquid metal blast at your enemies - when the Force is detached it will do the same, effectively doubling your wave cannon firepower.
Pros:
Detached Force will fire two 45 degree angle shots and a horizontal vulcan while detached, making for good coverage.
Force will fire a wave cannon blast when you do while detached.
Force lasers are all continuous beams that can cut through weak enemies easily.
Cons:
Force lasers break on contact with stronger enemies, and each laser ball must regenerate before it will continue doing damage.
All Force weapons are short range.
Wave cannon is slow.
Ships in this series:
Metallic Dawn, Metallic Dawn II
Stage note:
Completing 6.1 with certain Bydo style ships will turn you into the Metallic Dawn. This ship is much more challenging to use on Summer Night than Bydo System Alpha due to the lack of a homing wave cannon and just bad weapons in general for this stage.
Lucky me:
The part that I found most difficult in this stage was the R-Type formation that shows up behind you before the boss. I could not find a great tactic for clearing them out, and as it is, you can see one of the Andromalius' arms touch the back of my ship. Fortunately for me it wasn't a lethal part of the ship; it was just part of the ship graphic. The same is true when using the Andromalius - the arms are not part of the ship's hitbox. It's nice that Irem decided to keep the physics the same even though it is an enemy ship in this stage.
Personal note:
This was the first recording of F-B that I did for the summer 2011 Ship Showcase playlist, and I did it on Bydo because I wasn't totally used to the game anymore. After a few plays for practice, I just decided to keep this version, even though it isn't on R-Typer, because I really do not like this ship. It does look cool though. The stage overall, compared to R-Typer, feels MUCH easier, especially the boss, which wasn't hard to begin with; it just shoots four wave cannon bolts instead of five, and takes less damage to kill.
