Techno 293 OD Worlds 2013: an exceptional event
From 27 July to 3 August 2013 the Techno World Championship Techno293 Ergo Hestia Cup was an exceptional event on all points: A participation record with 376 windsurfers from five continents, windy and changing conditions, great organisation and a friendly welcome from one of the biggest windsurfing clubs in Europe. The Sopot Sailing Club Ergo Hestia hosted windsurfers from all over the world as far away as Singapore, New Zealand, Peru and Israel. 2013 will stay in all the memory of these young riders getting together from 30 countries and 5 continents to race on the most popular one design support.
During the race week, contenders struggled with changing weather conditions, demonstrating their excellent physical and mental conditions. Windsurfers raced to win gold in the 5 classes : under 17 boys and girls ,under 15 boys and girls and Techno Plus.
These World Championships were launched by a great opening ceremony, where Carlo Croce, President of the ISAF made a great speech to the riders wishing them to "have good time and fun on the water, to gain new friends... Winning can happen but it's not the main goal!". Windsurf and Techno 293 OD are more than ever the young heart of sailing for the highest sailing authorities !
At the end of this competition, the final rankings show the emergence of new champions.
" I do not believe that I am the champion" - said Ofek Elemeleh from Israel. He is World champion in the under 17 boys category "it is an amazing experience. At the last World Cup I was the fifth. I trained very hard for two years. It's a great feeling, " said the rider, who, a little while ago, carried on the hands of the Israeli team, waving blue and white flag.
"It was close ..." - laughed happy Russian Stefania Elfutina as she came out of the water wrapped in the national flag, with shouts and congratulations. "I'm happy, but it was hard to beat the competitor from Hong Kong and the UK," - said the world champion Under 17 Girls.
