What are ITAC controls, or information technology application controls, (ITAC) Audit
Here are some examples of ITAC controls:
Data entry validation: This control ensures that data entered into an application is accurate and complete. For example, a system might require users to enter a valid date or to enter a value that falls within a specified range.
Batch controls: This control ensures that all transactions in a batch are processed correctly. For example, a system might require that a batch total be calculated and that the total matches the sum of the individual transactions in the batch.
Checksums: This control ensures that data has not been corrupted during transmission or storage. For example, a system might calculate a checksum for a file and then compare the checksum to a previously calculated checksum to ensure that the file has not been changed.
Record counts: This control ensures that all records in a file have been processed. For example, a system might keep track of the number of records in a file and then compare the number of records to the number of records that were supposed to be processed to ensure that no records were lost or duplicated.
Encryption: This control protects data from unauthorized access. For example, a system might encrypt sensitive data before it is stored or transmitted.
Access controls: This control restricts access to data and applications to authorized users. For example, a system might require users to enter a username and password before they can access an application.
Documentation: This control ensures that the design and implementation of ITAC controls are documented. This documentation can be used to help troubleshoot problems, to train new users, and to comply with regulatory requirements. #CyberSecurity
