The national handloom exhibition ‘Ransalu’ was launched at the BMICH in Colombo yesterday with a view of promoting handloom produce during the festive season. This exhibition sponsored by the Industry and Commerce Ministry.
The Ministry of Textile Industry Development hosted the Ransalu National Handloom Textile Exhibition recently. It was a forum for Handloom producers to display their products to the public and to also to enhance the demand for handloom products. A special area was allocated to display the designs of young Sri Lankan designers with assistance from the University of Moratuwa.
Jeyraj Fernandopulle, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Marketing Development and Minister of Highways speaking at the opening ceremony, said, " Our aim is to help transform the handloom textile production to a market oriented industry. This exhibition helps us to achieve that, by focusing on inculcating a design culture among handloom manufacturers."
Jayatissa Ranaweera, Minister of Textile Industry Development and W D Jayasinghe, Acting Secretary, Ministry of Textile Industry Development was also present.
A fashion show featuring colourful and finest handloom items from Sri Lanka drew eyes at the 22nd Annual National Textile Exhibition “Ransalu”, a leading textile industry event organized by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Participants from the public and private sectors like Ko-Lanka Pure Silk (Pvt) Ltd and Fashion Design & Product Development section of University of Moratuwa showcased their handloom collection at the two-day event.
Models at the show displayed handloom designs, including collection of regional handloom manufacturing units featuring regional designs.
Also on display at the show was work of Premasiri Hewavasam, a renowned personality of Sri Lankan fashion industry.
