Our Veterinarians have confirmed the pregnancy is progressing as planned with a due date in March. Rachel is the mother of 18 year old twins Teetoo and Teeoni . Rachel is a fantastic mother as raising twins successfully is uncommon, she is known to be very attentive and protective. The father will not be known until well after the birth when genetic testing can take place.
Chimpanzees have a 220+ day gestation period followed by an unassisted birthing process. Rachel has been very cooperative during routine ultrasound, check-ups and urine testing. A video progression of multiple ultrasounds is hosted on our website KansasCityZoo.org.
Staff will continue to closely observe Rachel to ensure the baby is developing properly.
