Matthew's genealogy of Jesus' earthly lineage is filled with sinners, scoundrels and outsiders. Interestingly, it also features four women! Hebrew genealogies never mention a woman. The fact that Matthew mentions four is very noteworthy. What is God saying by including these women? God is telling us that His grace is greater than all of our sin, and, that His Sovereign purposes always prevail and cannot be thwarted by the sin of any man or woman. In these stories, we also see that Jesus is the friend of sinners, the one who came to seek and to save that which is lost.
