Описание: Filmed in late October of 2025 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, this short documentary listens to the closing weeks of the alpine grazing season in the Bavarian Alps. As cattle move slowly across lower pastures, Kuhglocken (cowbells) drift through the air in irregular patterns of tone and pause. Each bell differs slightly in size, thickness, and metal composition, producing its own pitch and resonance. Combined with the movement of the animals that carry them, these bells form a dispersed field of sound that travels across meadow, forest edge, and valley slope.

What emerges is less a structured melody than a shifting acoustic environment. The bells ring, fade, overlap, and fall silent again as the herd moves. Their tones form a loose and constantly changing chorus, but the listening gradually shifts toward the spaces that surround those sounds—the pauses, echoes, and small resonances that appear between them. In this sense the landscape becomes an accidental composition, one in which attention moves not only to what is heard but also to what briefly disappears.

The film approaches this environment as a meditation on listening itself. The valley becomes a kind of open score, assembled by motion, distance, and chance, where the most important elements are often the intervals rather than the notes. As Claude Debussy observed, “Music is the space between the notes.” The soundscape also echoes the sensibility described by John Cage: that silence is never empty but filled with presence. In the slow ringing of bells across the pasture, the quiet between sounds becomes part of the composition—an invitation to hear what normally goes unnoticed.
