Metaphors are powerful; our minds are designed to make idea containers to describe anything important, like our beliefs, fears, hope, and dreams. How is this impactful in professional coaching for both you and your client?
 
The beauty of using your clients’ metaphors is that it shifts the coaching conversation from coach-led to client-led. It lights up the client’s mind. I have been blown away by the power of metaphors to be transformational for my clients. I then began my study of how metaphors work. In my own practice I have found that using metaphors allows me to create stronger agreements, get quickly to the often-hidden important challenges, be in deeper partnership, evoke awareness, and anchor learning. My clients are empowered to create, connect, and ultimately own the dots.
 
I challenge you to take the next 24 hours to be intentional and notice the number of metaphors that naturally appear in all your conversations.
