Yesterday I made it back to Collier Yard and met up with George's Railfanning and StoneTNT. The North End Sub's currently under a curfew, as track work's being done from Rocky Mount north (hence why those ties are scattered here), but luckily we came on Friday, which is the only day track work isn't being done. It was rainy and windy, but that didn't stop us. Enjoy.
Train #1: CSX F778 comes up the hill. I kinda hoped a different Geep would be here since I already caught 2707 here, but ah well.
1. GP38-2 #2707
2. SD40-3 #4042
Train #2 (2:06): Amtrak P089 flies by like Gordon with the Express.
1. P42 #194
(3:34): F778 goes back down with the SD40-3 leading this time. In the next clip it comes back light.
Train #3 (4:51): A massive NS 234 goes by, running 2x2. One of the DPUs was smoking up the place!
1. AC44C6M #4252
2. ES44AC #8032
3. C44-9W #9787 (DPU)
4. ET44AC #3673 (DPU)
(9:56): F778 starts to go back down.. but then reverses back into the yard.
Train #4 (11:22): Sometime after Barry joined us, CSX Q301 came by.
1. ES44AH #891
2. ES44AH #3208
(20:48): F778 pulls up. You can hear Barry talking to the female engineer.
Train #5 (23:00): CSX Q031 rolls by.
1. ES44AH #3072
2. ES44AH #3202
Train #6 (25:36): Amtrak P090 speeds through.
1. P42DC #90
Train #7 (28:22): Amtrak P095 rolls over Grimes Road, then Barry and I chased him to the Norfolk connector at B.X.
1. P42DC #84
Train #8 (29:53): A CSX ES44AC pulls up the office as light power. It appeared to come from the old S-Line connector.
Train #9 (31:28): NS V62 goes under Vaughan Road. Today he didn't go into the yard, he worked the steel mill and then continued to Waverly. We knew the eastbound NS that was due was V62 because the signal wasn't lined to Crater.
1. AC44C6M #4116
2. C44-9W #9389
3. AC44C6M #4161
Train #10 (33:00): Amtrak P091 hurries south with two engines.
1. P42DC #12
2. P42DC #161
Train #11 (33:35): Not long after, Amtrak P053 follows behind.
1. P40DC #835
2. P40DC #837
Train #12 (34:20): When NS 23G with NS 1074 was spotted at Pamplin, George and Stone decided to drive out to Olgers Road, where the 90 Detector is, so we could get a better shot of 1074, since it's a west facing DPU, and unlike Collier, panning would be feasible. I followed behind. We waited a while here while night fell before at last, 23G showed up (with restricting clear signals) with an all SD70ACe lashup.
1. SD70ACe #1081
2. SD70ACe #1168
3. SD70ACe #1074 (Lackawanna heritage unit; DPU)
Train #13 (40:15): After that, I returned to Collier for a few northbounds that were in Rocky Mount. I even drew a few pictures of Lily while waiting. Q300 arrives to do its routine work.
1. ES44AH #3120
2. ES44AH #3082
Train #14 (51:43): CSX K897 flies by (though blocked by Q300), unfortunately with no foreign power though. At least it had DC GEVOs (even though the leader was Trey from ROHV), as I heard some of the ES40DCs have been getting capped for storage (probably because of traffic declines, though I heard they slip a lot and their dynamics are worthless).
1. ES40DC #5416
2. ES40DC #5???
Train #15 (56:21): Amtrak P097 flies by, though also mostly blocked. I heard during the curfew, the Silver Star and Silver Meteor will be doing a rotation. One will run certain days, the other will run the other days. Both sides will get served (both train routes split between Rocky Mount and Savannah). We also see Q300 pulling out after picking up the trash cars.
1. P42 #??(?)
2. P42 #??(?)
Train #16 (1:11:38): I was about to leave when Q415 got the signal. So I stayed with this, then went home.
1. ES44AC #817
2. ES44AH #3183
