VVVVVV Master of the Universe (No Death Run)

Описание: In all honestly, this was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I did not look up strats until after I beat it and found out I could have gone significantly faster in some places. This is not really a speedrun though and I came up with everything on my own, so I'm fine with it.


The biggest errors in the run are me hesitating at On the Waterfront (previous run died there) and a couple of missed flips such as on Must I Do Everything For You? and DIY V Repair. The closest I got to dieing was probably V Stitch, where I'm pretty much standing on the spikes at one point but yay hitboxes.


For the order I went with Laboratory first because I really don't like Kids his Age Bounce and want to get it out of the way first, then Space Station 2 because it's the stage I'm most likely to die on I guess. I do Tower next because it's the easiest level and I want a shot at the Gravitron if I get this far. Also because I'm really confident in beating Warp Zone, which is also my favorite stage (dat Pressure Cooker). The Final Stage is pretty straight forward, I made a pretty significant mistake at the Final Challenge but it really worked out in my favor as I did not have to worry about being too fast and dieing to ceiling spikes.


I practiced a bit of Intermission 1 and found that I was a lot more consistent than I thought I was, Do Try to Keep up used to give me some trouble before. As for the second Intermission, the infamous Gravitron, while scary it is really not all bad. If you break down and practice the different phases, the only difficult parts left are the transitions between the individual phases. The way I handle the last transition is certainly wonky and it would be a lot easier to try and position yourself further to the left of the screen, but it worked out for me and I had a decent success rate with my method.


VVVVVV overall is such a great little game with fun physics and an amazing soundtrack. Going for this was certainly challenging but it never felt frustrating. Overall it took me around two days of practice, though I completed the game many times over the years since it was released and got V ranks on all the time trials. At the end of the second day I got to the Final Stage for the first time but made a really stupid mistake. The next day I was kind of anxious to sit down and play because I was afraid it would turn into a grind. What actually happened however was that the very first attempt led to the run you're watching right now, which was totally insane and also the reason the title screen makes an appearance at the beginning of the video.
