In 1949 the government of the Republic of China fled from the quickly falling mainland to the island territory of Taiwan which had recently been returned to them from the Japanese as part of their World War 2 reparations. Along with the government came just under 2,000,000 refugees. Made up mostly of the military and their families. A goverment, and their entourage, in exile.
It was a layover on the road to victory, a brief respite, a place to lick wounds and regather. Strengthen for the battles to come.
2,000,000 refugees needed a place to live and so the Kuo Ming Tan began to build villages all over the island to house troops and their families.
Here the years passed and the families lived in limbo, awaiting the call to arms, the signal that it was time to return home and with power across the strait approaching homeostasis that call, ultimately, never came.
