How do you grow a compost operation? Sometimes it starts with the next generation—and sometimes with a sign that stops you in your tracks.
In this conversation, Michelle Gambon from Go Grow Enviro shares how her BPI Microgrant helped transform school composting into a campus-wide movement. With tools like compost cranks, compostable wipes, and shoe covers, her team grew diversion from 770 pounds to more than 2,800 pounds—empowering “Earth Ambassadors” across a 2,000-student school to lead the way.
We also hear from Marisa DeDominicus of Earth Matter NY on Governors Island, where BPI funding supported a dynamic “Zero Waste Island” video. With over one million annual visitors, the project helps reduce contamination, increase compostable serviceware capture, and bring closed-loop composting to life.
And in St. Louis, Stacey Cline of New Earth Farm (Compost STL) used her Microgrant to install bold signage at 20+ drop-off sites—clearly communicating what’s accepted, including BPI Certified products, and driving new participation.
Together, these projects highlight how BPI’s 2024–2025 Microgrants Program supports practical, high-impact outreach that expands access, reduces contamination, and strengthens local composting infrastructure.
