A powerful 958mb North Atlantic low-pressure system is dominating the European weather forecast for this weekend (January 24-25, 2026). This dynamic system is bringing severe gales to the northwest, widespread heavy rain to western Europe, and a critical, major snowfall event to the Alps.
❄️ IN THIS FORECAST: We analyze the latest ECMWF model data showing a continent divided. While the UK, France, and Benelux face a battering from wind and rain, the Alps are bracing for potentially historic snow accumulations exceeding 1 meter in places. Meanwhile, high pressure locks Scandinavia into an extreme deep freeze, while southeastern Europe experiences unusual warmth ahead of the cold front.
👇 KEY WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS:
Atlantic Storm: Damaging winds and heavy rain for Ireland, UK, and NW France. Alpine Blizzard: Major snow event for the French, Swiss, Austrian, and Italian Alps. High avalanche risk likely. Genoa Low Developing: Bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms to Northern Italy and the Adriatic coast on Saturday/Sunday. Scandinavia Deep Freeze: Temperatures plummeting to -20°C in Norway and Sweden under high pressure. Iberian Impacts: Significant snow for the Pyrenees and Cantabrian Mountains in Northern Spain.
NOTE: This forecast is based on numerical weather prediction models (ECMWF) and is for informational purposes only. Always consult your local national weather service for official warnings.
