The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the chapter "Corruption in the Judiciary" in the NCERT Class 8 textbook and held a hearing. Chief Justice Surya Kant criticized the move, calling it an attack on the reputation of the judiciary. The court imposed a complete ban on the controversial book, prohibiting its printing and distribution. It also ordered the immediate confiscation of all print and digital copies of the book and its removal from public access.
