Setting in a sleeve is often considered one of the more challenging techniques in garment construction, but with careful preparation and the right approach, you can achieve professional results. Here's a quick introduction to fitting a plain sleeve (also called a set-in sleeve) into a garment:

PREPARATION
Make sure your sleeve and armhole match in circumference (the sleeve cap should be slightly larger than the armhole by about 1-1.5 inches for ease)
Press all seams before beginning
Mark notches on both the sleeve and armhole to ensure proper alignment

BASIC STEPS
Pin strategically - Start by matching and pinning the sleeve cap to the shoulder seam of the armhole
Match notches at the front and back of the sleeve to the corresponding points on the armhole
Distribute the slight excess fabric of the sleeve cap evenly between pins
Stitch with the sleeve side facing up so you can control the fullness

COMMON ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS
If you see puckers, try increasing or redistributing the ease
A sleeve that pulls or binds may need more ease or a larger sleeve cap
Diagonal wrinkles often indicate improper alignment of notches

Remember that fitting sleeves takes practice, and different fabrics behave differently. Don't hesitate to baste, check the fit, and adjust as needed before committing to the final seam.
