Oscar Brown, Jr & Oscar Brown, III, are compelling performing their two-man-show: IT’S ABOUT TIME.
A scheduled performance where the piano player didn’t show up, resulted in the dynamic duo discovering they can do it with just themselves and a metronome. They went on to perform ITS ABOUT TIME at the Lincoln Center (NYC) and several other venues, before the untimely death of Oscar, III.
This song is a jazz standard by Nat and Cannonball Adderly, to which Oscar Brown, Jr. set this lyric, after Nat told him the song was inspired by something they’d seen as small boys growing up in Florida; men working on a chain gang. They entitled it Work Song.
