In this video I have explained the construction and working principle of a moving coil galvanometer.
A moving coil galvanometer (also called a D’Arsonval galvanometer) works on the principle that a current-carrying coil placed in a uniform magnetic field experiences a torque. When a small electric current flows through the moving coil, an electromagnetic torque (τ = N B I A) causes the coil to rotate. A phosphor-bronze spring provides restoring torque, so the deflection of the galvanometer is directly proportional to the current, making it a highly sensitive instrument.
Because of this linear deflection, a moving coil galvanometer can be converted into an ammeter or voltmeter and is widely used to measure very small currents in physics experiments.
