For a brief moment in 1974, Jeff Beck found himself with few projects and a lot of free time. After the demise of Beck Bogart Appice, Jeff did some session jobs with Stevie Wonder and also produced and played on English funk band Upp. For a 1974 BBC program 'Faces of Guitar' about different guitar players and their styles, Jeff performed with the band Upp and 2 songs were broadcasted: 'Down in the Dirt' and an early version of 'She's a Woman', which would end up on the Blow by Blow album of the following year.
I always found these 2 songs to be one of the pinnacles of his guitar playing, and displaying his incredible dexterity, imagination and an otherworldly capacity for sitting in the pocket. This lesson breaks down the parts in that live performance as best as I can. Certainly there are some riffs about which I don't have a clue.. but let me know what you think.
