Описание: For farmers, the mandi or marketplace is a place of great hope. Months of hard work and heavy investments finally pay off here, as they get their dues. But farmers in Madhya Pradesh have been in for a rude shock this season. They grew acres upon acres of maize, relying on the government's promise to purchase it at an MSP of Rs. 2,400. The reality: having to sell the crop for as low as Rs. 800, and seldom for higher than Rs. 1,500.

Having loans to repay and a fresh crop to invest in, farmers have no leverage of time and are forced to sell. But there's a firm resolve for the next season, that they will not be growing maize again.
