Even the most well-planned and well-conceived bike lanes face some level of public pushback. The recently-opened Dickens Greenway in Chicago seemed to check all the boxes as a reasonable investment that everyone could support, yet community opposition delayed it for more than four years. In this video, I cover all the arguments against the lane, the reasons it still made sense to build it, and a controversial surprise element that ended up being as beneficial to pedestrians as it is to bikes.
