ABOUT THE SCORE:

This infamously terrible mid-80's actioner may be a confused mess that combines international politics with karate, gymnastics and ninjas, but it appears that Croatian composer Alfi Kabiljo didn't get the memo about the dire nature of the film he was to score, choosing to imbue the film with about as red-blooded and heroic a melody one could hope for (heard on resplendent horns at 1:17) that manages to be heraldic and heartfelt in equal measure. Add to these moments of tremendous bravado several tender renditions of said theme (like the Morricone-esque flute and strings at 4:55), a driving bad guy motif (more than a little bit inspired by the "War Dance" movement of Respighi's "Belkis, Queen of Sheeba") and some exotic music of the "Near East" and you get a winning score that plays dead serious in the absurd film - and stands as a fantastic listen on its own.
