Police have confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened following the death of Wiandre Pretorius, a police reservist linked to explosive testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. Pretorius allegedly shot himself at a filling station in Brakpan, just days after surviving a reported assassination attempt in Boksburg.
His name was raised by slain Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, in connection with the alleged torture, killing and dumping of Emmanuel Mbhense in 2022. The incident, which occurred in the presence of his police partner, has intensified national focus on deep-rooted corruption, police killings, organised crime and accountability within SAPS as the Madlanga Commission continues to expose shocking allegations involving senior officials.
