This video is part of a mini series, created by The Kennedy Center Education and NaliniKIDS, that focuses on the five ideals often ascribed to John F. Kennedy: COURAGE, FREEDOM, JUSTICE, SERVICE, and GRATITUDE. Through this age-appropriate introduction to foundational civic concepts, we aim to support teachers in laying the groundwork for active and engaged citizens as children mature. Our shared hope is that these five ideals will live on for generations to come.

Starting with a phonetic introduction of the word GRATITUDE, coupled with a few innate body reactions that seed the idea of a mind-body connection, OOPA takes learners to her signature WORDSHOP where she meets her friend Bonny. Bonny says the word GRATITUDE makes her think of a balloon, because when she feels gratitude her heart fills up, just like a balloon that floats in the air. Gratitude makes us feel light and happy. Then in the Movement Room, OOPA and Bonny express gratitude for their teachers, friends, nature, places to play, learn, and sleep, and for each other. OOPA closes with a quiet reflection, modeling mindfulness as a healthy habit.
