Floating a rifle barrel overview. In this video, I give a brief overview of the process I take to float a standard hunting rifle barrel. This is a fairly easy process, but does take some time, care, and attention to detail to do it correctly. I usually float my barrels with about a 1/8" gap between the barrel and the stock. After you are finished floating, it is necessary to put some finish on the stock to make sure it is protected.
