From silence to dreams: Pascaline’s life transformed by assistive technology | UNICEF

Описание: Pascaline used to have difficulties in hearing her mother, friends, and teachers due to her hearing impairment. When the Government of Rwanda was able to provide her with affordable and high-quality hearing aids procured through the UNICEF Supply Catalogue, Pascaline’s world transformed.

The video begins with a poignant flashback showing a glimpse of the moment she first tested her hearing aids. The narrative then progresses into a follow-up of Pascaline’s story, filmed one year later. We went to see how she is doing today, and ask her about the impact these simple devices have had on her life so far.

“Before I received the hearing aids, I couldn’t play with other kids because I couldn’t hear what they were playing. But now, we can play together because I can hear.”

“The new thing I noticed is that she enjoys studying more than before. When she arrives in class, she can hear, whereas before, she could not and would be afraid to ask questions, saying, “If I ask, they will laugh at me.” But now, when the teacher explains something written on the blackboard, she hears and understands it, just like all the other students.”
