Eruption - "HYPOTHETICAL" Alternate Take
What you're hearing is Eruption played LIVE exactly 11 days after recording the original in the studio by Eddie Van Halen. I mastered this live take as close as possible to the original studio recording, adding a bit of stereo delay and chamber reverb. Otherwise, it's a straight recording from the soundboard. This sounds so close to the studio version since Eddie is using the the identical setup with same guitar and amp that he used in the studio 11 days earlier - frankenstrat, variac'd Marshall head, speakers, even the Univox echo dive-bomb at the end. It really feels like an alternate take that is longer and a bit crazier.
This version is from a recording of their live show at the Pasadena Civic, CA on October 15, 1977, known as "The Nightmare before Halloween". The rest of the show is amazing too. It sounds like the original album being played live.
