The Nature of Things for 8 singers and electronics immerses us in the specific sound environment of the gardens of Royaumont Abbey and brings the concert hall, with its modern technological advancements, back into the natural environment. 24 speakers are buried in the Jardin-Portager of Royaumont Abbey and employed to create a specific and artificially constructed outdoor sonic environment that remains seemingly natural and unchanged to the naked eye. The singers move amongst the public and the garden's vegetation, at times hidden from view, and the public is also free to circulate in the space.
The text used are short extracts taken from Lucretius' De Rerum Natura.
"The Nature of Things" is commissioned by Les Métaboles and Fondation Royaumont.
