When the film premiered in December 1946, it was not an instant classic and was quickly forgotten following its lukewarm reception. It wasn't until syndication when local TV networks began showing the film royalty-free as part of their Christmas programming, that the film found a new audience of those who resonated with it and helped propel it into the Christmas classic we know it as today!
