I had been intending to upload this for a while, was going to be a few days earlier, hopefully it can still be enjoyed throughout the new year 2025; it will be 30 years since this album was released! 🤗

The Memory of Trees refers to the idea from the Celtic Druids, who believed in the wisdom and knowledge of trees, as Roma Ryan read about. Enya also said that it is not exactly about trees and the environment as such, but more like "what do trees think about humans?" so it is almost like them speaking to each other in The Memory of Trees . 😄🌳
I put that at the end as I May Not Awaken is too sad to end with 🥲 but trees are quite uplifting. 🌳💭

The themes of these songs are quite mixed, with mythical aspects merging into love, dreams etc..
I would guess that it was a time when Enya was unsure with some aspects of her life, often sought guidance. Reassurance and acceptance, from others and from herself, helped to get through hard times. 😌

Vocally, I think this album is quite fascinating: the little bits of 'vocal gymnastics'; chanting-type vocals (Pax Deorum) ; the prayer-like phrasing, hymn-style (Once You Had Gold) ; the sense of journeying on (Anywhere Is) ; and also the dreamy sounds (China Roses) . 🗣️☺️🙏
The lead vocals for the song Hope Has A Place was even recorded outdoors. 🏞️

The majority of songs are in English (translatable); Pax Deorum in Latin and some Irish; Athair Ar Neamh also in Irish; La Soñadora in Spanish.
