On July 12th, 2006, Hezbollah, a Lebanese terror group, began firing rockets at Israeli towns, an event known as the Hezbollah Cross-Border Raid.
The attacks were allegedly in response to the detainment of Lebanese prisoners who were being held on espionage and murder charges in Israel.

Eventually, however, it was discovered that these attacks were carried out in an attempt to divert Israeli soldiers away from a secret Hezbollah operation in which three IDF soldiers were killed and another two were abducted from within Israel’s borders.
