This Reusable Learning Object (RLO) explores Microsoft FarmBeats, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) system designed to revolutionize modern agriculture. Developed under the course ALEC 640 – Methods of Technological Change, this educational video introduces viewers to the method of data-driven agriculture, a technological change model transforming how farmers manage crops, conserve resources, and enhance productivity.
In this presentation, we walk through the story of FarmBeats, from its development at Microsoft Research to its real-world deployment in farms across the globe. Learn how AI, sensors, drones, edge computing, and cloud data work together to generate actionable insights for farmers; empowering both professionals and students to embrace digital innovation in agriculture.
This RLO also includes the FarmBeats for Students program, a partnership between Microsoft and the National FFA Organization, which introduces K–12 learners to precision agriculture using micro sensors, MakeCode, and AI-based analysis.
