WRITTEN RECIPE FOR ALMOND PASTRY BARS
preheat oven to 350 degrees
On a parchment or foil lined baking sheet
2 Tubes Crescent Rolls (find the sheets if you can, if not the rolls will be fine!)
2 8 ounce blocks cream cheese, room
Temperature
1 Egg YOLK (reserve the egg white in clean container!)
2 Egg WHITES
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract (powerful! Do not add extra!)
2 cups sliced almonds
FROSTING GLAZE:
2 cups Powdered Confectioners Sugar
1 Teaspoon Almond Extract
2-3 Tablespoons Milk or Water
DIRECTIONS:
Beat together cream cheese and sugar until smooth, add EGG YOLK and almond extract then beat until fluffy.
Unroll one tube of the crescent dough onto one half of baking sheet.
Spread one half of the cream cheese mixture
Over one half of dough as I demonstrated in the video. Sprinkle the cream cheese with 1/2 cup of almonds then fold lengthwise.
Repeat with other tube of crescent rolls.
BEAT TWO EGG WHITE UNTIL SOFT PEAKS FORM. Divide and spread over each of the pastries as demonstrated.
Sprinkle 1/2 cup of almonds over each pastry on top of egg whites.
Bake 350 degrees on center rack for 25 minutes or until golden brown (do not overbake!)
Remove from oven and allow to cool ten minutes.
Drizzle the glaze over the tops as demonstrated in the video.
This recipe can easily be cut in half for smaller households! Or share with a family member or neighbor!
