Dayz , is a mod of a video game ( arma II ) released in the summer of 2012 based on the game ARMA II , a military simulation developed by Bohemia Interactive . This is a survival simulation a "post-apocalyptic-zombie" world designed by New Zealand game designer Dean Hall. Following the success of the mod, Bohemia Interactive recruited Dean Hall in order to market a standalone version of the game . The title is renowned for its slow and tumultuous development, especially due to the need to develop a new game engine . Released in alpha version on December 16, 2013 via the early access system of the Steam platform , the game left that status five years later, on December 13, 2018, when version 1.0 was released . DayZ quickly gained significant success and sold 1 million copies within a month of its alpha release . The game has, since its release, sold more than 4 million copies
