The Rolex catalog is divided into two main categories: Classic and Professional. The classic category is characterized as dress watches for formal, business, or leisure attire, while professional series watches are considered “tools” that serve a specific purpose, such as dual-time capabilities or significant water-resistance.

One of the most affordable classic watches is the Oyster Perpetual, which is available in a wide range of feature sets. That includes an impressive selection of case sizes, starting with the current ladies 28mm size and including mid-size options and numerous mens sizes. For the first time, Rolex added a 41mm option to the Oyster Perpetual series just this year.

Another staple of the Classic collection is the Datejust, which includes the same Oyster case and Perpetual movement, but also offers a date mechanism on the dial. The series boasts a ladies edition that is currently produced in 28mm as well as mid-size, 36mm, and 41mm options.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Datejust 41, which features the largest case size available within the Datejust collection. It also exudes classic Datejust styling while offering a more contemporary design set that answers a growing interest among collectors for larger luxury watches.

Until just recently, the Day-Date was only produced with a 36mm case. In 2008, Rolex unveiled the 41mm edition as the Day-Date II. That model remained in production until 2015, when it was discontinued and replaced with the current Day-Date 40. As with everything Rolex produces, the larger Day-Date was perfected until the proportions were just right. Of course, the 36mm edition of the coveted President’s watch is still in
production alongside the 40mm edition.

Rounding out the Classic watches within the Rolex portfolio is the Sky-Dweller. 2012 marked the first time Rolex released a brand new model in decades. The watch was the Sky-Dweller, and it did not disappoint when it came to innovative and contemporary styling. At 42mm in diameter, it is also the largest dress watch available within the Rolex catalog.

However, its most notable achievement belongs to the calibre 9001 Perpetual movement that beats within the case. It boasts more functions than any other Classic watch in the Rolex catalog, including a date mechanism, dual-time register, and month indicator above each hour marker. By adjusting the Ring Command bezel, the wearer can correct either of these functions.

The Professional series began to take shape around the 1950s after the iconic Submariner made its debut. Equipped with a 60-minute bezel, a lumed display on the dial, and water-resistance up to 1,000 feet on modern references, the Submariner is perfect for underwater adventures.

However, collectors of all lifestyles also adore the timeless styling of the Submariner, which is available in either steel, two-tone, or gold. The bezel and dial are also available in several color options, such as black or blue.

For decades, Rolex only produced the Submariner in 40mm. For 2020, the company released the first 41mm edition, complete with the brand-new cal. 3235 Perpetual movement. The Submariner is, at its core, a mens Rolex.

Also available within Rolex’s collection of men’s dive watches are the Sea-Dweller with a depth rating of up to 4,000 feet and the Deepsea with a depth rating of up to 12,800 feet. Both are similar in design to the Submariner but vary in size and weight.

Another incredibly popular mens Rolex is the Cosmograph Daytona, which boasts chronograph functions and self-winding. Its design set is characterized by a Tachymeter bezel and side pushers. Even if you’re new to watch collecting, chances are, you will recognize the Daytona. Dubbed by some as the Paul Newman Rolex, the Daytona is a beloved sports watch coveted by so many brand enthusiasts.

Next up is the GMT series, which debuted as the GMT Master in the 1950s. This watch remained in production for several decades before being discontinued and replaced with the GMT Master II. With an independent 24-hour hand, the GMT Master II can read up to three time zones at once. It is considered the ultimate traveler’s companion and is a must-have for any gentleman’s watch box.

There are countless editions of the GMT series on the secondary market, with the most notable being the Pepsi editions with a red and blue bezel insert and the Batman, which features a black and blue insert. The latter was produced in only ceramic, while the Pepsi is available pre-owned in either aluminum or ceramic.
