Loop cast on is a very simple cast on technique.
It gives a very understated edge with not much strength.
It is suitable for increasing more than 2 sts on either side of your knitting piece especially when these sts are later picked up (e.g. armhole, underarm and necklines).
Loop cast on is used when the first stitch on the next row is a k stitch.
There is a tutorial for twisted loop cast on which has different direction of the loop (suitable when the first stitch on the next row is a p stitch).
