Saskatchewan Forest Products (SFP)
Established in 1961, SFP was a cornerstone of Hudson Bay's forestry sector. The mill produced a variety of wood products, contributing significantly to the local economy.
MacMillan Bloedel
In 1965, MacMillan Bloedel acquired the existing mill, expanding its operations and introducing advanced technologies. The company invested in substantial upgrades, including a $4 million expansion in 1968–69, making it the largest particle board complex in Canada at the time.
Simpson Timber
Simpson Timber operated in Hudson Bay, producing stud lumber products. Their presence added to the competitive landscape of the local forestry industry.
🔄 Transition to Modern Operations
In 1995, MacMillan Bloedel partnered with Saskatchewan Forest Products Corporation (SFPC) to form SaskFor, streamlining operations and planning. The collaboration led to the construction of a new oriented strand board (OSB) mill, which replaced the old waferboard plant.
